Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is an FDA-approved cosmetic injection used to temporarily diminish the appearance of the lines and wrinkles that appear on your forehead, in between your eyebrows (frown lines), and around your eyes (crow’s feet).

With a skilled and precise hand, Ms. Moncada carefully injects the medication into specific areas of your face to provide the subtle, yet effective results you’re looking for.

How does Botox work?

Botox works by temporarily stopping the movement of the muscles under your skin that create lines and creases. As you get older, the layer of subcutaneous fat under your skin begins to diminish, allowing the muscles to show closer to the surface of your skin.

Additionally, collagen and elastin production slows down, which decreases your skin’s strength and elasticity.

Every time you pout in disappointment, squint your eyes when out in the bright sun, or raise your eyebrows in surprise, the muscles used to create your expressions cause your skin to crease and fold.

And, without the strength and elasticity due to the lack of collagen and elastin, your skin simply can’t bounce back. By stopping the muscle activity, Botox prevents the folds that create lines, wrinkles, and creases allowing your skin to smooth out.

Do Botox injections hurt?

The needle Ms. Moncada uses to inject your Botox is very small and pain is minimal. If you’re sensitive to pain, be sure to let her know during your Botox consultation so she can adjust your treatment plan.

The injections take only a few minutes and require no downtime afterward. However, Ms. Moncada may suggest you delay any strenuous activity for at least two hours following your injections.

You should start to notice an improvement in your look within 24-48 hours after your Botox treatments and the cosmetic injections keep your lines and wrinkles away for three to four months.

What are fillers?

Fillers are another popular cosmetic injection offered at Copper Valley Primary Care. The gel-like injections serve as a replacement for your lost fat and can smooth out lines and wrinkles, add volume to thin lips, and improve facial contours.

Ms. Moncada utilizes the best brands of fillers available, including:

  • Juvéderm®
  • Restylane®
  • Radiesse®
  • Belotero Balance®

Depending on your aesthetic goals, Ms. Moncada may recommend you combine Botox and filler injections to help you get a more dramatic look.
